SERVANT LEADERSHIP

The Ministry Table

Our service teams are broken up into three ministry teams: Adminstrative, Finance, and Caring & Nurturing. Each team consists of seven members and they are chosen following the guidelines outlined in our by-laws. Each of these teams tries to meet monthly with all meetings open to anyone in our congregation with a few exceptions as noted in the by-laws.

At least three times a year (more if necessary), all three teams share their work with the congregation in one big meeting called The Ministry Table. At the large meeting, each team shares their quarterly progress and monthly reports and the The Ministry Table discusses progress toward our vision that requires input from all three teams.

Diaconate

The word "diaconate" comes from a Greek New Testament term meaning servant.  Being God's servant is an honorable position. Throughout the New Testament, the word servant is applied to someone absolutely devoted to Jesus. As a member of the Diaconate, you are called upon to serve in many capacities, but at the center of all these functions is the service of Communion in weekly worship.

In addition, the Diaconate works in cooperation with the teams of The Ministry Table and the Elders and promotes the growth and welfare of the church by providing the services of hospitality and receiving offerings. New Diaconate are nominated by the existing body of Diaconate in the church prior to being considered by The Ministry Table and the Congregation.

Elders

The Elders at First Christian Church work in cooperation with the teams of The Ministry Table to promote the growth and welfare of the Church, give spiritual oversight, visit the sick, and shepherd members of the congregation through care and comfort. An Elder also gives thoughtful consideration and direction to general church policy and encourages others through personal example.

In addition, Elders serve at the Lord's Table and ordains ministers and missionaries when the occasion requires. New Elders shall be nominated by the existing body of Elders in the church prior to being considered by The Ministry Table and the Congregation.
